Wyoming Soccer Stuns Early, but Colorado Rallies Late for 2-1 Win
The Wyoming Cowgirls soccer team refused to be intimidated on Sunday in Boulder, taking the field at Prentup Stadium and trading blows with a tough Colorado squad before ultimately falling 2-1.
The Cowgirls, now 2-1-1, stunned the Buffaloes just 25 seconds into the match when Alyssa Glover connected with Jennah Wanner to record the fastest goal in program history. Wyoming held that lead for nearly 60 minutes, frustrating a Colorado team that entered the contest unbeaten and receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches’ Poll.
The Buffs finally broke through in the 60th minute when Jace Holley tied the match with an unassisted strike. Colorado then found the game-winner in the 82nd minute, as Reagan Kotschau converted a feed from Layne Emerson to give the home side the decisive edge and improve their record to 5-0-1.
Colorado held a 19-8 advantage in total shots, though the margin was tighter in shots on target (7-5). Wyoming was led offensively by Alisa Bunn and Hadley Linder, who each recorded two attempts. Goalkeeper Haley Bartel kept the Cowgirls in the fight with five saves, while Buffs keeper Jordan Nytes finished with four s
tops.
Wyoming continues its challenging road stretch Thursday, heading to Athens for a 4:30 p.m. clash with 13th-ranked Georgia at the Turner Soccer Complex.
