On the Road with the Pokes: A Packed Week of Wyoming Action Across the West
The Pokes are trading the altitude of Laramie for a week of competition on the road, with Wyoming athletes representing brown and gold from Oregon to Arizona to Colorado. Here’s what’s on tap this week as several Cowboy and Cowgirl teams gear up for pivotal fall matchups.
Tuesday & Wednesday — Men’s Golf at the Beaver Invitational
The week tees off in Salem, Oregon, where the Wyoming Men’s Golf team faces off against Oregon State and a competitive field in the Beaver Invitational. It’s a two-day test that will challenge the Cowboys’ consistency and patience on the lush Oregon fairways. With the fall season nearing its close, these rounds could be a major confidence boost heading into the final stretch.
Thursday — Dual Action for Cowgirls in Nevada and Arizona
The Cowgirls take center stage Thursday night in two different states.
Women’s Volleyball travels to Reno for a 7 p.m. showdown with Nevada, aiming to rebound and climb the Mountain West standings.
At nearly the same time, Cowgirl Soccer heads south to Phoenix to take on Grand Canyon University under the lights at GCU Stadium. Both matches carry midseason significance as the Cowgirls look to sharpen their form before returning home.
Friday — Swimming & Diving Opens Season with a Splash
It’s a busy weekend in the pool for Wyoming Swimming & Diving, competing at the Air Force Cadet Natatorium.
At 4:00 p.m., the Pokes face a double dual against both Air Force and LSU, testing their depth early in the season. With talented underclassmen joining seasoned returners, it’s a great early-season benchmark for Coach Dave Denniston’s squad.
Saturday — A Full Slate from Sunrise to Sunset
Saturday is packed with Wyoming sports from coast to coast:
Cross Country hits the course at Pre-Nationals in Columbia, Missouri, starting with the women’s 6k at 9:00 a.m. followed by the men’s 8k at 9:45 a.m. MT. This meet is one of the biggest of the year, featuring some of the top programs in the country.
Men’s Basketball tips off exhibition play against Northern Colorado in Gillette, Wyoming—a preseason preview before the Pokes return to the Arena-Auditorium later this month.
Swimming & Diving returns to the pool at 10:00 a.m. for a second day of dual action with Air Force and LSU.
Cowboy Football kicks off at 1:30 p.m. against Air Force at the USAF Academy, a key Mountain West road battle that could shape the season’s trajectory.
And to cap the night, Cowgirl Volleyball faces Air Force at 7 p.m., closing the weekend with another conference test.
A True Wyoming Weekend
From the fairways of Oregon to the desert lights of Phoenix, Wyoming athletes will be representing the Brown and Gold across five states this week. It’s a reminder of how deep and determined this athletic program runs — grit, travel, and heart in every competition.
