Jacob White Earns National Athlete of the Week Honors
Cowboy Nation, it’s time to celebrate. Senior distance runner Jacob White has been named the Men’s Division I National Athlete of the Week by the USTFCCCA — and he’s only the second Wyoming athlete in program history to bring home this award.
White earned the honor after his unforgettable victory at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minnesota. On one of the toughest courses in the country, he surged past the pack at the 5k mark and never looked back, crossing the line in 24:39.8 — nearly 20 seconds clear of his closest challenger. It wasn’t just a win, it was a statement.
This one had a little extra sweetness, too. Just a few weeks ago, White came up just short in the Wyoming Invite, losing in the final meters. At Roy Griak, he flipped the script, taking control when it mattered most and finishing strong to put the Brown & Gold on top.
For Cowboy fans, this is a special moment. White joins Paul Roberts (2019) as the only Pokes to ever earn National Athlete of the Week honors. And let’s not forget, White has already proven himself on the national stage — he was a Second-Team All-American this past spring in the 5,000 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
The Cowboys finished second as a team at Roy Griak, but make no mistake — with White leading the charge, this group is building something special. Next up, they’ll head to Notre Dame’s Joe Piane Invitational on October 3, where White and his teammates will once again line up against some of the nation’s best.
Cowboy Country, keep your eyes on No. 1 in Brown & Gold. Jacob White isn’t just winning races — he’s carving his name into Wyoming history.
Go Pokes! 🟤
