π Cowgirls Sweep Cleveland State to Stay Perfect in 2025 π
The Wyoming Cowgirls kept their momentum rolling Saturday night inside the Arena-Auditorium, cruising past Cleveland State in straight sets to earn their first sweep of the season. Scores went 25-20, 25-17 and 25-12, as Wyoming improved to 2-0 on the year.
The match featured little drama, with just five lead changes across three sets. Wyomingβs offense was sharp and balanced, outpacing the Vikings by 10 kills and finishing with an impressive .363 hitting percentage, while limiting Cleveland State to just .145.
Veteran outside hitter Sarah Holcomb paced the attack, racking up 14 kills on a .500 hitting clip. Addy Cook also reached double digits with 10 kills, while Addy Thorington added eight. The Cowgirls swung with confidence throughout, hitting over .300 in every set, including a blistering .429 in the opener.
Freshman setter Sara Quigley continued to shine in her debut weekend, distributing 36 assists β an average of 12 per set β and adding five digs, two blocks, and a pair of kills. At the net, Jordan Sandy led the blocking effort with three, while Wyoming posted a 6-2 team advantage overall.
On the defensive end, three Cowgirls tallied double-digit digs: Paige Lauterwasser (14), Lily LaFlesch (13), and Skylar Erickson (11). Lauterwasser was equally effective in the front row, contributing eight kills on a .381 efficiency without a single attack error. LaFlesch also provided the teamβs lone ace of the match.
With two convincing wins to open the year, Wyoming now turns its attention to in-state rival Colorado. The Cowgirls will look to complete a perfect opening weekend Sunday afternoon as they close out the Rumble in the Rockies. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. inside the Arena-Auditorium.
