The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team continued its strong showing Saturday in Fort Collins during the second day of the Jon Messick Invitational, hosted by Colorado State. A trio of Cowgirls powered their way into Sunday’s draw finals, capping off another impressive day on the courts.
Anastasiia Kochelaevskaia, Violetta Borodina, and Ruby Young each secured straight-set wins to book their spots in the championship rounds. Kochelaevskaia outlasted Chicago’s Zou in a competitive Draw A matchup, 6-3, 6-4. Borodina looked sharp in Draw B, cruising to a 6-2, 6-3 victory over another Chicago opponent. Young joined the group of finalists in Draw H after taking down Weber State’s Celorio Morales, 6-3, 6-4.
Silver Bijlsma also added to the success in singles, claiming a 6-3, 6-3 win in Draw G, highlighting Wyoming’s depth across the tournament.
The Cowgirls collected a handful of doubles wins as well. Borodina and Dilnaz Mashabayeva opened with a 6-4 triumph before bowing out in the following round. In consolation play, the tandem of Serina Abriola and Bijlsma earned a nail-biter, 7-6 (8-6), while the duo of Kochelaevskaia and Young secured a 6-3 victory.
