Cowgirls Secure Historic Road Win Over No. 15 Georgia, 1–0
ATHENS, Ga. (Sept. 4, 2025) – The University of Wyoming women’s soccer team made history late Thursday night, earning its first-ever road victory over a nationally ranked opponent with a 1–0 shutout of No. 15 Georgia at Turner Soccer Complex.
Game Summary
Kickoff was delayed three and a half hours due to severe weather, but the Cowgirls wasted little time once play began. In the 11th minute, forward Alyssa Glover scored off a through ball from freshman Addison Keen, netting her fourth goal of the season and extending her streak to four consecutive matches with a score.
Wyoming’s defense held strong against a relentless Georgia attack. The Bulldogs attempted 23 shots, but only six were on target. Goalkeeper Haley Bartel turned away all six, recording her third shutout of the season and the 13th of her career.
“This was one of Hobbs’ best performances I’ve seen from start to finish,” head coach Josh Purdum said, using Bartel’s nickname. “She came up with the types of saves that keep us in the game and showed composure in every moment.”
Coach’s Comments
“I’m proud of the heart and defensive discipline we showed,” Purdum said. “Georgia is one of the top-scoring teams in the country. To stay confident, organized, and composed against a ranked opponent says a lot about this group.”
Purdum also praised Keen’s poise in her first career start. “What impressed me was just the maturity from Addison. She wasn’t nervous or overwhelmed. She stepped up in a big way, and I’m pleased for her.”
Program Milestone
The win marks the Cowgirls’ second victory over a ranked opponent in program history, both under Purdum’s leadership. Last season, Wyoming defeated No. 11 Utah State, 2–0, in Laramie.
