Cowgirls Grind Out Gritty 1–0 Win Over Colorado College
The University of Wyoming soccer team knew what was at stake Sunday at the Madrid Sports Complex. In their final home match before a three-game road stretch, the Cowgirls needed three crucial points—and they delivered.
Wyoming battled through a physical contest to earn a 1–0 victory over Colorado College, improving to 7-4-4 overall and 2-2-2 (8 points) in Mountain West Conference play. The Tigers slipped to 3-6-5 and remain winless in league action at 0-3-3 (3 points).
“Today was a grind,” head coach Josh Purdum said. “It was a typical Sunday match—physical and competitive. We knew they were hungry for their first conference win, but our group responded well. We seized the momentum in the second half, which is exactly what we talked about after the last game. That’s what I’m most proud of.”
The match’s decisive moment came in the 49th minute, when Alyssa Glover calmly buried a penalty kick to give Wyoming the lead. The goal was Glover’s 10th of the season and 18th of her career, moving her into a tie for seventh all-time in Cowgirl program history.
The PK opportunity came after Maddie Burr sent a dangerous ball into the box that Jazi Barela went up to contest. Barela was pushed mid-air, drawing the foul and setting up the pivotal spot kick.
In net, goalkeeper Haley Bartel made sure the advantage held. She recorded five saves en route to her eighth shutout of the season and the 18th clean sheet of her career, tying her for second-most in program history.
The contest was tight from start to finish, with Colorado College holding a narrow 12–11 edge in total shots. Glover led Wyoming with five, while Kiley Ballek added two. For the Tigers, Kendall Memoly tallied four shots and Regan Wallace made four saves in goal.
With the win, the Cowgirls close their home slate on a high note before hitting the road for three straight. Wyoming heads to Grand Canyon University on Thursday at 8 p.m. (MT), followed by a bye on Sunday.
Next stop: the desert. Let’s keep the momentum rolling. Go Pokes
