Cowgirls Fall in Marathon Match Against Boise State
The Wyoming Cowgirls saw their four-match winning streak come to an end Sunday afternoon after a lengthy battle with Boise State in Laramie. The Broncos ultimately secured a 4-3 victory in a match that stretched more than five and a half hours.
Boise State gained the early edge by capturing the doubles point. The Broncos clinched the deciding match at the No. 1 position with an 8-6 tiebreak victory. Wyoming’s lone doubles win came at the No. 2 spot, where the pairing of Eugenia Ceinos and Dilnaz Mashabayeva delivered a strong 6-2 performance.
Singles play proved just as competitive, with four of the six matches extending to a third set. Wyoming picked up victories at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 positions, with two of those wins coming in three-set battles.
At No. 2 singles, Anastasiia Kochelaevskaia rebounded after dropping the opening set to claim the next two, winning a tight second-set tiebreak before closing out the match in the third. Violetta Borodina earned Wyoming’s first singles point of the afternoon at the No. 3 position with a straight-set victory that included a dramatic second-set tiebreak. Ceinos completed the Cowgirls’ singles wins at No. 5, bouncing back after a second-set loss to take the decisive third set.
Despite the effort, Boise State secured victories in the remaining singles matches to claim the overall 4-3 team result.
Wyoming now turns its focus to Mountain West play. The Cowgirls will open conference action on the road next weekend with matches at Nevada on Friday and UNLV on Sunday
