Cowgirls Extend Win Streak Behind Glover’s Long-Range Strike
POCATELLO, Idaho – The Wyoming Cowgirls leaned once again on their familiar formula: a sturdy defense paired with the finishing touch of Alyssa Glover. The result was a 1-0 victory over Idaho State on Thursday evening at Davis Field.
Glover delivered the decisive moment in the 64th minute, unleashing a powerful shot from distance that found the back of the net. It marked her fifth straight match with a goal and the 13th of her career, moving her into the program’s top 15 all-time scoring list.
Head coach Josh Purdum credited his team’s resilience in earning the road win.
> “We defended well,” Purdum said. “There were some shaky moments, but we stuck together. We still need to test goalkeepers more—only two shots on goal isn’t ideal—but we capitalized on the one that mattered.”
While Glover grabbed the headlines, goalkeeper Haley Bartel added another milestone to her growing résumé. She collected her fourth shutout of the season and the 15th of her career, cementing her spot in the top five for career clean sheets at Wyoming. Bartel turned aside three shots in the victory.
The Cowgirls (4-1-1) dictated much of the match, outshooting the Bengals (2-3-2) by a 14-8 margin and piling up a 10-6 edge in corner kicks. Kiley Ballek and Hadley Linder paced the offense with three shots each, while Peyton Hunt chipped in a pair. Idaho State goalkeeper Hannah Wieler was forced into just one save, while Talia Coury and Saydree Cooke registered two shots apiece for the home side.
Wyoming now shifts focus to a home match with Colorado Mesa on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Madrid Sports Complex. The game will double as Senior Day, honoring five Cowgirls – Hunt, Lily Brongo, Eliza-Grace Smith, Ava Furrow and Jazi Barela.
> “Sunday is about balance,” Purdum noted. “We want to enjoy and celebrate our seniors, but the best way to do that is by putting in a strong performance on the field.
