Cowgirls Drop Mountain West Road Opener at Nevada
The Wyoming Cowgirls came up short in their first Mountain West road match of the season, falling 4-2 to Nevada Friday afternoon in Reno.
Nevada seized early momentum by capturing the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. At the top spot, the duo of Silver Bijlsma and Violetta Borodina held a 5-2 advantage before play was halted once the Wolf Pack secured the point.
Wyoming found success in singles behind strong performances from Bijlsma and Borodina. Competing at No. 2, Bijlsma earned a straight-set victory, 6-2, 6-4. Borodina followed with a three-set win at No. 3, taking the match 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 to remain unbeaten in conference play at 3-0.
Nevada secured the team victory with wins at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 6 singles, while the match at No. 5 went unfinished.
The Cowgirls continue their road swing Sunday morning with an 11 a.m. matchup against UNLV
