➡️ Cowgirls Close Non-Conference Slate with Road Draw at South Dakota
The Wyoming Cowgirls wrapped up non-conference action Sunday afternoon with a 1-1 draw against South Dakota at the First Bank & Trust Soccer Complex in Vermillion.
Head coach Josh Purdum admitted his team was fortunate to earn the result:
“We’re glad to come away with a point on the road, but overall, the performance wasn’t where we want it to be. We didn’t create enough chances. Sometimes one shot is all it takes, but we have to be more dangerous moving forward.”
With the draw, Wyoming moves to 5-2-2 on the season, while the Coyotes sit at 4-2-4.
South Dakota opened the scoring in the 29th minute when Klarissa Vega capitalized on a feed from Riley Haldeman. The Cowgirls responded early in the second half. In the 49th minute, Alyssa Glover struck for her sixth goal of the year off an assist from Kiley Ballek. The goal pushes Glover’s career total to 14, keeping her in 13th place on Wyoming’s all-time scoring list.
The Coyotes outshot Wyoming 17-8 and forced keeper Haley Bartel into seven saves on the day. Wyoming managed four shots on target, with Glover and Ballek each recording two. South Dakota’s goalkeeper, Cambell Fischer, stopped three Cowgirl attempts.
Now, the focus shifts to Mountain West play. Wyoming opens its conference schedule with a tough road swing—visiting reigning regular-season champion Boise State on Thursday before heading to defending tournament champion Utah State on Sunday
