Cowgirls Blanketed by Utah State, Eye Homestand Return
The Wyoming Cowgirls wrapped up their extended road stretch with a tough loss Sunday afternoon, falling 3-0 to Utah State at the Chuck & Gloria Bell Soccer Field.
The setback drops Wyoming to 5-3-3 overall and 0-1-1 in Mountain West action, while the Aggies improved to 4-4-3 and 1-0-1 in league play.
Utah State wasted no time getting on the board, striking in the opening minute on a goal from Kaylie Chambers. The Aggies added another in the 36th minute when Mia Mullenmeister finished off a pass from Rine Yonaha. The scoring was capped early in the second half, as Samantha Sellers made it 3-0 in the 53rd minute, with Chambers providing the assist.
Utah State controlled much of the offensive flow, outshooting Wyoming 13-6 and holding a 7-1 edge in shots on target. Raegan Richardson led the Cowgirls with two shots, while goalkeeper Haley Bartel collected four saves in net.
The Cowgirls now return to Laramie after a demanding road swing. A four-match homestand awaits, beginning Thursday at 4 p.m. when Wyoming welcomes UNLV to the Madrid Sports Complex
