Cowgirls Blank Northern Iowa to Finish South Dakota Swing 2-0
The University of Wyoming Cowgirls wrapped up a perfect weekend in South Dakota on Saturday, overpowering Northern Iowa in a 4-0 neutral-site victory in Sioux Falls. With the win, Wyoming improved to 7-3 overall and completed a 2-0 trip in the state.
Wyoming set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches for the second consecutive outing. At the top position, Silver Bijlsma and Violetta Borodina secured a 6-3 decision. The No. 2 pairing of Eugenia Ceinos and Madlena Orlova followed with a 6-4 victory. Serina Abriola and Anastasiia Kochelaevskaia closed out doubles play in commanding fashion at No. 3, earning a 6-2 win to clinch the opening point.
Carrying momentum into singles, the Cowgirls delivered three straight-set wins to seal the dual. Bijlsma dominated at No. 2 with a 6-0, 6-1 performance. Borodina handled the No. 3 spot, 6-3, 6-1. Abriola turned in one of the most decisive matches of the day at No. 6, posting a 6-0, 6-0 shutout.
Wyoming was also in strong position in the remaining singles contests before play was halted once the team victory was secured. Kochelaevskaia led her match at No. 1, while Orlova and Ceinos were ahead in their respective courts when competition concluded.
The Cowgirls now shift their focus to Mountain West play. After a brief break from competition, Wyoming opens conference action at home March 13 against Utah State
