Cowboys Grind Out 68–56 Road Victory at Air Force
The Wyoming Cowboys leaned on timely perimeter shooting and a perfect late run at the free-throw line to secure a 68–56 road victory over Air Force on Tuesday afternoon at Clune Arena. The win marked Wyoming’s first true road victory of the season and moved the Cowboys to 10–3 overall and 1–1 in Mountain West play.
Wyoming connected on 10 three-pointers for the fifth time this season and converted 18 consecutive free throws down the stretch, finishing 24-of-27 at the line. Despite shooting just 35 percent from the field, the Cowboys controlled the glass with a 36–25 rebounding edge, including 12 offensive boards, and forced turnovers that led to a season-high 26 points. Defensively, Wyoming limited Air Force to just 1-of-12 from beyond the arc, even as the Falcons shot 50 percent overall.
Nasir Meyer led Wyoming with 14 points while also posting a career-high six assists and five rebounds. Meyer was efficient from long range, knocking down three of four attempts. Adam Harakow added 13 points, while Uriyah Rojas contributed 11 off the bench as the Cowboy reserves combined for 32 points. Matija Belic anchored the interior with a career-best nine rebounds to lead all players.
The Cowboys endured early turnover trouble and struggled to establish offensive rhythm in the opening minutes, but a three from Leland Walker sparked Wyoming into action. Harakow and Meyer helped fuel a 7–0 run that gave the Cowboys early control. After another brief scoring lull, Meyer’s second three extended the lead, and Wyoming used defensive pressure to push ahead by double digits midway through the first half.
Air Force responded with multiple short runs to keep the game competitive, but Wyoming answered with timely perimeter shots, including a four-point play late in the half. Meyer capped the opening 20 minutes with a corner three at the buzzer, sending the Cowboys into halftime with a 36–26 advantage. Wyoming forced frequent turnovers in the half, converting them into 20 points.
The Falcons opened the second half with renewed energy, trimming the deficit to one possession and eventually pulling even after Wyoming went cold from the floor. Rojas provided a key spark off the bench with a three during the stalemate, and the Cowboys followed with a defensive stand that led to a decisive run. Wyoming held Air Force scoreless for more than three minutes, stretched the lead back to double figures, and then sealed the game at the free-throw line in the closing moments.
Air Force was paced by Caleb Walker, who finished with 17 points and five rebounds on efficient shooting.
Wyoming returns to action Saturday with a challenging road trip to face New Mexico at The Pit. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m., with the game televised on CBS Sports Network
