Cowboys Charge Up the Leaderboard After Strong Day One in Oregon
The Wyoming Cowboys men’s golf team made a statement on the opening day of the Oregon State Invitational, surging up the standings with one of the best team rounds of the day. After a steady morning, the Pokes came out firing in Round 2, posting a 3-under team score—the best of the entire field—to climb into a tie for fourth at 588 (+12).
Head coach Joe Jensen expressed pride in his team’s ability to adapt and stay composed in unfamiliar territory. Competing at sea level on slick Oregon greens presented challenges, but the Cowboys stayed patient, trusted their preparation, and found their rhythm as the day went on.
Leading the charge was Brody Leid, who turned in a scorching 66 (-6) in the afternoon—tied for the 20th-best round in program history. Leid’s round featured six birdies and an eagle, a dramatic turnaround from his opening 76 (+4). Sitting at 142 (-2) overall, he’s just one shot off the individual lead heading into the final round.
Freshman Conner Scheich also delivered a standout performance, carding a flawless 67 (-5) in Round 2 with five birdies and no bogeys. His bounce-back effort after an opening 81 (+9) has him tied for 25th at 148 (+4).
Ryker Lind continued his steady play, posting rounds of 76 (+4) and 74 (+2) to sit tied for 38th at 150 (+6). Kristof Panke added rounds of 75 (+3) and 78 (+6) for a 153 (+9) total, rounding out Wyoming’s countable scores.
Kellen Ball sits at 157 (+13) after rounds of 76 and 81, while individuals Brody Knowlton (150, +6) and Austin Barry (160, +16) also represented the Brown and Gold well in the field.
In the team race, Boise State holds the top spot at 580 (+4), with Idaho and Oregon State close behind. Wyoming’s climb into the top five puts them firmly in contention heading into Wednesday’s final round, which tees off at 9:30 a.m.
