Balanced Effort Leads Cowgirls to 2-0 Mountain West Start
The Wyoming Cowgirls kept their momentum rolling Saturday, cruising past Air Force in straight sets to notch their third win in a row and improve to 2-0 in Mountain West play. The sweep came by scores of 25-19, 25-19, and 25-16.
Statistically, the match looked even in some areas, with both squads posting 37 kills and 42 digs. But at the net, Wyoming (6-7, 2-0 MW) was dominant. The Cowgirls piled up a season-high 17 blocks compared to just four for the Falcons (9-5, 1-1 MW). That effort helped limit Air Force to a .088 hitting percentage, while UW swung at a sharp .304 clip.
Sarah Holcomb paced the Brown & Gold’s balanced attack. She registered nine kills on only 15 attempts and was a wall defensively with 10 blocks, nearly earning another double-double. For the week, Holcomb averaged more than two blocks per set.
Addy Cook chipped in six kills while hitting .357, while Paige Lauterwasser and Jordan Sandy each tallied five. Sandy was especially efficient with a .417 attack percentage and added five blocks, while Lauterwasser contributed a team-best nine digs.
Setting duties were split, with Sara Quigley and Maddy Stucky dishing out 16 assists apiece. Quigley also collected seven digs, with Stucky adding six. The service line provided a boost as well, with Erickson, Lauterwasser, and Sandy each landing an ace.
With back-to-back home victories to start conference action, Wyoming now turns its attention to the road. The Cowgirls travel to Phoenix next week to take on new Mountain West member Grand Canyon on Thursday at 7 p.m
